There are a lot of Google Reader userscripts (for Greasemonkey / Stylish) but there is one I like a lot.
It is called "Mac OS X Snow Leopard" and well, it basically makes your Google Reader look like this:
As you can see, it's not just a great looking improvement, but it also makes Google Reader use more space for the articles, etc.
You can get this Google Reader style from here. If you want the feed favicons too, you must install this script.
These will of course work on Firefox, Opera and webkit-based browsers (such as Safari).
