dropbox appindicator ubuntu 10.04 screenshot

A few days ago we were telling you about a new experimental Dropbox version which adds AppIndicator support for Ubuntu as well as customizable notification area icons. But that build (0.8.55) had a bug: once you restarted your computer, Dropbox would revert to the old behavior: no AppIndicator and the old icons. But yet another experimental build fixes this issue.

Also, reading the changelog it seems Dropbox now supports KDE too (I'm not 100% sure so a confirmation would be nice!).

Update to the latest Dropbox experimental build (0.8.57):

32bit:
dropbox stop
cd ~
wget http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86-0.8.57.tar.gz
tar -xvf dropbox-lnx.x86-0.8.57.tar.gz

64bit:
dropbox stop
cd ~
wget http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-0.8.57.tar.gz
tar -xvf dropbox-lnx.x86_64-0.8.57.tar.gz

Then you can start Dropbox:
dropbox start

In case the above links don't work anymore, manually download the latest experimental Dropbox from HERE.

If you want to stay up to date with the latest Dropbox experimental builds, there is a script which will upgrade to each new version automatically. See: Automatically Upgrade To The Latest Experimental Dropbox Build [Linux Script]
