If you've installed Google Earth in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat from the Super OS 10.10 repository or from the Medibuntu 10.04 repository, Google Earth probably crashes at startup.
For me, when running Google Earth, the following error is displayed:
Google Earth has caught signal 11.
But there might be some other error instead of the one above.
The fix is easy - you need to edit the ~/.config/Google/GoogleEarthPlus.conf file:
gedit ~/.config/Google/GoogleEarthPlus.conf
And then search for "enableTips" and if it exists, change it from "true" to "false". If it doesn't exist, under "[General]", add:
enableTips=false
Then save the file and start Google Earth - it should now work without any issues.
Update: it seems Google Earth was crashing in Ubuntu 10.04 too (I wasn't aware of that) - this fix will work for Ubuntu 10.04 too!
