Synapse internet

In the previous post about Synapse, I was telling you that the more Zeitgeist dataproviders you have, the more info Synapse will return. For instance, right now you don't have any results in Synapse, under "Internet". That's because you need a Zeitgeist web browser data provider (currently the Zeitgeist dataproviders BZR provides 2: for Chrome and Firefox).

With the help of Alberto (who sent me the 64bit .so files), I've packaged the Zeitgeist dataprovider Chrome extension in a .crx file so you can easily install it in Google Chrome / Chromium.

Using this extension, the websites you visit in Google Chrome / Chromium will show up in the Synapse  (and other applications that make use of Zeitgeist) search results.

Installation and usage

Before installing the Chrome extension, let's make sure you have everything required for it to work:

- For Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat
sudo apt-get install libzeitgeist-1.0-0 zeitgeist-fts-extension

- For Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx: firstly add the Zeitgeist PPA, then
sudo apt-get install libzeitgeist-1.0-0 zeitgeist-extension-fts

Then, download the Google Chrome / Chromium Zeitgeist dataprovider extension:  32bit | 64bit

To use: extract the downloaded .zip file and you should find a .crx Chrome extension inside. Drag and drop this .crx file onto Google Chrome / Chromium and you should then be prompted to install it.
