Mechanig is an application written by WebUpd8 reader Georgi Karavasilev, inspired by our own Y PPA Manager. It can refresh the repositories, upgrade packages, clean leftover .deb and unnecessary packages and more using a GUI.
Georgi has released a new Mechanig version (0.1.8) today, adding a new tree structure - way more organized then before:
- "All Actions": executes all actions - Refreshing repos, Updating packages, Removing unnecessary packages, Removing no longer installable packages from the package list, Deleting .deb packages downloaded by apt, Removing old kernels and Cleans RAM
- "All Software": executes all apt related actions - Refreshing repos, Updating packages, Removing unnecessary packages, Removing no longer installable packages from the package list, Deleting .deb packages downloaded by apt
- "All optimization": executes all optimization related actions - Removing old kernels and cleans RAM
- In "Software" and "Optimization" these actions can be executed on by one or together
The new version also comes with an option to remove old kernels and also the program doesn't require root privileges when you start it anymore. Further more, version 0.1.8 also comes with complete English, Bulgarian, Spanish and German localizations.
Another feature in the latest Mechanig is a settings module which for now lets you change the main Mechanig icon and fix a bug in USU (a Bulgarian Linux distribution).

To add the Mechanig PPA and install the latest Mechanig 0.1.8, use the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kokoto-java/usu-extras

As usual, I'm sure Georgi will be reading the comments so if you have suggestions, feature requests or find some bug, leave a comment!
Thanks to Georgi for the info!
